The Consejo Cultural Yorùbá de Canada’s mission, since its origin in 2011 as a working-group here in Toronto, Ontario Canada, and now as of February 15th, 2018, as a registered business in the Province of Ontario, Canada has been to promote awareness regarding the Ifá- Òrìṣà belief-system through a spiritual anthropological approach to research, education, publishing and community support and services.
We have worked with partners like the Harriet Tubman Institute at York University and ThatChannel to provide an open learning environment through which to receive information on Ifá- Òrìṣà’s history and practice. Ifá-Òrìṣà is one of the oldest traditions in the world pre-dating Christianity, Judaism, and Islam and is recognized as the 6th largest religion/religious belief in the world and one of the fastest growing. This indigenous belief system remains ever relevant in the modern world making it more than just a religious tradition, but a way of life.
The Ifá divination system was inscribed by UNESCO in 2008 as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, originally proclaimed in 2005 (https://ich.unesco.org/en/RL/ifa-divination-system-00146).

We encourage our community to continue to take all medical and physical precautions in terms of social distancing, and for this reason, our organization will only do Web-based Video Conference Divination as opposed to "in-person" to avoid Community spread of this terrible virus.
In this time of Pandemic, Ifá-Òrìsà followers call on Babaluaye/Soponna/Asojuano/Sakpata to protect the world and curb the effects of this Covid-19/Corona Virus.
Obaluaye is an Òrìsà strongly associated with infectious disease and healing. The name Babalú-Ayé translates as “Father, lord of the Earth” and points to the authority this Òrìsà exercises on all things earthly, including the body, wealth, and physical possessions. In West Africa, he was strongly associated with epidemics of smallpox, leprosy, influenza and so on. Although strongly associated with illness and disease, Babalú-Ayé is also the spirit that cures these ailments. Both feared and loved, Babalú-Ayé is sometimes referred to as the “Wrath of the supreme God” because he punishes people for their transgressions. People hold Babalú-Ayé in great respect and avoid calling his actual name, because they do not wish to invoke epidemics.
His worship is widely associated with the Earth itself, and his shrines are often separated from commonly travelled areas. His ritual tools include a ritual broom for purification, a covered terra-cotta vessel, and abundant cowry shells. Usually considered hobbled by disease.
